The State Capture Commission believes that the 15-month imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma sends a strong message that there are serious consequences for defying summonses and court orders.
This as the Constitutional Court ordered Zuma to hand himself over to police by Sunday after he was found guilty of being in contempt of court. Zuma failed to follow an order from the apex court that he appear before the Zondo Commission.
The commission’s secretary Itumeleng Mosala says they welcome the judgement noting that they view this ruling as one of the great importance of the rule of law, the principle of equality before the law, the primacy of the constitution and the protection of constitutional democracy.
