Eskom’s board has seen an almost complete overhaul, with only Dr Rod Crompton remaining to ensure continuity.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan made the announcement of the new board, noting that a new skill set is needed to take the utility out of crisis mode.
Mpho Makwana has been appointed as new chairperson, after having served as a non-executive director of Eskom for nearly ten years.
Former Cosatu secretary general, Bheki Ntshalintshali also features, showing an attempt to have representation of worker interests on the board.
NEW BOARD:

– Tsakani Mthombeni
– Dr Claudelle von Eck

Now Minister Gordhan notes that there is no time for paid suspensions pending disciplinary action to crack down on those behind the acts of sabotage at Eskom.
This has been one of the issues crippling the embattled power utility.
Meanwhile, energy expert, Ted Blom says that the problems at Eskom have been whitewashed for some time, and President Cyril Ramaphosa has not been given a true reflection of the energy crisis.
He says that this is what happens when politics gets involved in industrial activity.
