A Mitchells Plain teacher has been awarded by the Western Cape Education Department for her excellence in teaching mathematics.

Shariefa Clark, who heads up the maths department at Beacon Hill High School, has been hailed for her passion for education.

She also provides extra maths classes every week to learners who face academic challenges.

Clark has also taken her investment into the Mitchells Plain community beyond the classroom.

She has initiated food and toy drives, and grandparents’ appreciation days amongst others.

Clark forms part of a group of stellar educators who have been honoured by MEC David Maynier through the Provincial Teaching Awards.

They will then go on to represent the Western Cape at the National Teaching Awards next month.
