The African National Congress (ANC) has lost out in the Cederberg Municipality, as the Democratic Alliance (DA), Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and Cederberg First Residents Association (CFRA) have agreed to coalesce.
The ANC had attained four seats during the Municipal Elections but failed to form a coalition in order to take over the running of the Cederberg.
The DA’s Federal Council chairperson, Helen Zille broke the party’s coalition news via Twitter.
The CFRA attained three seats in the polls, while the DA accumulated two, and the FF+ one.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) also achieved one seat in the municipality.
The CFRA will take the mayorship, the FF+ the deputy mayor position, while the DA will take the Speaker’s seat.
The DA had taken a blow in the Cederberg during the November polls having run the municipality after the 2016 elections.
The Cederberg is also the first of the country’s 70 hung councils to settle a government through a coalition.
