Local and provincial governments should be empowered with more resources and responsibilities to get the job done at a more local level.
This is one of the four key points Western Cape Premier Alan Winde wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to address in tomorrow’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The Premier says that by doing this, it will allow government to get that much closer to the people and ensure that localized responses to the challenges communities face are tended to.
Among the others points, Winde says Ramaphosa should address includes lifting of the National State of Disaster, addressing the unequal distribution of police resources, getting the Passenger Rail Agency (Prasa) back on track, and addressing the inefficiencies at Port of Cape Town.
