Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe has been suspended with immediate effect.
The Presidency issued a statement announcing Hlophe’s suspension as per the decision taken by the National Assembly.
His suspension comes following the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) report in July that found that Judge Hlophe had breached the provisions of the Section 165 of the Constitution.
At the time, Judge Hlophe tried to sway two Constitutional Justices to violate their oaths of office, and rule in favour of former statesman Jacob Zuma’s corruption case involving arms deal company, Thales.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says to ensure continuity and stability in the work of the division high court, the suspension is effective as of immediately.
