The Western Cape has a backlog of nearly 40 000 driving license cards.

This is due to the machine meant to produce them being broken since last month. MEC for Mobility, Daylin Mitchell says that the necessary parts have been acquired and the machine should be repaired by next week.

He has however lamented the impact that this will have on those in need of their driving license cards to operate legally on the country’s roads.
