Just over 402 000 youth in the 16-29 age group have registered to vote in the upcoming local government elections.

Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)’s chief electoral officer, Sy Mamabolo noted that this age group makes up 91% of newly registered voters.

He was providing feedback following the past voter registration weekend.

The online platform for this purpose closes at midnight.

The IEC has also confirmed that the online registration facility is experiencing high traffic volumes.

It’s urged the public to be patient and to keep trying.
