A 32-year-old man has been shot and killed in Voel Street in Athlone. Police found him lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds yesterday afternoon. He was taken to hospital and declared deceased upon arrival.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi says that the unknown suspects fled the scene and have yet to be arrested. Also, on Thursday in Athlone, police searched a crime scene near the corners of Veld and Canal Roads where three men sustained gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred at around 6pm as people were making their way home from work. Swartbooi says that the information they received suggests that the occupants of a motor vehicle opened fire on three males aged between 17 and 34 and fled the scene.

The 34-year-old was declared dead on the scene. The other two were transported to hospital for treatment.
