Top ANC officials are set to meet with convicted ANC Women’s League President Bathabile Dlamini later today, following her sentencing in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
Dlamini was found guilty of perjury and sentenced to four years in jail with an option of paying a R200 000 fine.
According to the ANC’s resolution, any member facing criminal charges needs to step aside, and those convicted must resign. However, Dlamini has done neither.
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says the party is involved in a process of renewing and repositioning itself by dealing with factions that already exists.
“The cohort of people in the ANC of people who want to see renewal is large, and this is a clear sign that success is ahead,” said Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa and Deputy President David Mabuza are among the top officials to meet Dlamini this afternoon.
