South African pro-Palestinian protestors believe that the United States should not be left off the hook for its complicity in funding state-terrorism.
On Saturday, pro-Palestinian groups demonstrated outside the Nasrec Expo Centre, condemning the American delegation for its country’s complicity in arming Israel to kill Palestinians. Among the groups in attendance were the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) and the South African Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS).
They are collectively calling for a ceasefire amid the Apartheid-state continuing to relentlessly attack Palestinian civilians. Leading the demonstration, General-Secretary for SAFTU Zwelinzima Vavi says the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) may be important symbolically, but South Africa can do without it as nothing significant would change because trade relationships are such that they favour America.
Vavi adds that the US should not be allowed into South Africa while it continues to side with murderous Israel.
