The National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA) has officially launched, taking over Eskom’s transmission business.

With a R112 billion investment, NTCSA aims to connect 30GW of renewable energy to the grid within five years. This move is part of a broader plan to expand the national grid and improve electricity sector efficiency.

Interim CEO Segomoco Scheppers highlighted the need for innovative funding and private sector support.

The NTCSA will also establish a fair-trading platform to foster a competitive electricity market. Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa emphasized the benefits of increased competition for consumers.

Eskom will now focus on unbundling its distribution and generation businesses.
