President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the BELA Bill into law.

However, he has announced the delay in implementing two clauses in the legislation by three months. Clauses four and five will not be automatically implemented.

These clauses relate to who will be responsible for admitting learners to a public school, and the determination of the school’s language policy.

President Ramaphosa says that the three months will allow for a consultation window to discuss and possibly amend these clauses.
