The Paarl to Bellville taxi route remains closed, but a tentative agreement between warring associations has been achieved.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says that they have put various measures in place to ensure commuter safety.
He has also confirmed that government has asked the police to open an inquiry under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act to investigate the taxi violence.
Meanwhile, taxi drivers have agreed to only operate on the routes for which they have licenses, and those violating this regulation will be taken to task.
The taxi war between the Cata and Codeta associations affected thousands of commuters, and some of them have also fallen victim to the violent clashes.
