Syria has strongly condemned a smear campaign by Western countries against Russia.

According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, a source within the Syrian Foreign Ministry says Western nations, especially the United States are distorting the facts, exacerbating the situation and aggravating the crisis in order to maintain their hegemony internationally.

It further adds that the US has on numerous occasions violated international law and massacred millions of innocent people through its unjustified wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Syria.

The ministry has called on the international community to stand up against Western and US policies, saying it constitutes a serious threat to international peace and security.
