Help feed the poor by contributing to the Ashura Feeding Project. You can make any donation towards a pot of food. The funds collected will be used to prepare meals, which will be distributed across various parts of Cape Town.

This initiative is part of a nationwide effort led by Muslims for Humanity, in partnership with Radio 786. In 2023 on the Day of Ashura, the 10th Muharram, we managed to provide more than 250 000 meals to the poorest in our country.

A Statistics SA survey in 2021 revealed that about 2.1 million South African households, over 12%, experience hunger. Two-thirds of these households are in urban areas, with nearly half a million in Cape Town and Johannesburg, the country’s largest and fastest-growing cities.

Starting the new Islamic year with charity helps Muslims understand and appreciate the broader context of their actions.
