Despite some analysts questioning the reliability of the latest census figures, Stats SA insists that they have done everything in their power to ensure that the numbers are accurate. The body’s head of census project management Luqmaan Omar says that these numbers will give authorities a better understanding of where to divert services. 

Gauteng has the biggest population in the country, while the Western Cape has come in third.
