Some Labour Unions Unhappy with Public Sector Wage Deal

Several public service unions have blasted government’s interim wage deal as an insult.

The South African Policing Union’s spokesperson Lesiba Thabakgale says that the R 1 000 cash gratuity is an insult. He says that this money is also subject to taxation and is non-pensionable. He  says that this means that the extra money will not have any impact.

SAPU, Nehawu and Popcru have all rejected the 1.5% wage increase offered by government. But government has reached the 50% needed to reach an agreement as other unions accepted the increase.
