Residents in violation of the 15 000 litre household water use limit have options to increase the quota, but this will be applied on a case-by-case assessment.
The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien says that the trickle-flow measure will only be implemented after two warnings, and an assessment process.
But as more families are living in one house, or have made space for backyarders, their water use has exceeded the 15 000 litre limit.
Badroodien that they have the option of going to their ward councillor, or sub-council office to plead their case.
He says however, that they must justify why they should have a higher water limit.
