Just over 430 Cape Town households have applied to sell their excess solar power to the municipality. The number comes as the first window for residential seller applications closed in March.

According to the City businesses have been able to earn cash for power since June last year, with this option now extended to households as well. Cape Town businesses and households have earned close to R31 million.

It says that this has largely been in municipal bill credits, since the start of the 2022/23 financial year until April 1st this year. The City has some 1 500 sellers benefitting from the sale of excess generation.
