Police are monitoring the situation at the Siqalo informal settlement near Mitchells Plain following a disruptive protest.

Residents are calling for households to be connected to the national power grid. Holding a banner residents say they have had enough and want electricity.

A section of Jakes Gerwel Drive has been closed between the R300 and Highlands Drive.

Earlier stones and petrol bombs were reportedly thrown at passing vehicles. Police say no cases of damage to property have been reported at the Philippi Police station
