Several Arrests in the Philippi Precinct

Arrests for crimes ranging from drug possession to gender-based violence have been effected in the Philippi policing precinct in just under a week.

A 52-year-old woman has been nabbed in Kampies Informal Settlement for being in the possession of dagga worth R750. A variety of alcohol brands have also been confiscated from her premises, as well an undisclosed amount of cash.

This as a suspected drug dealer was arrested not too far from the police station in Lower Ottery Road. The 32-year-old was found in the possession of Mandrax valued at R300.

Police Captain Lance Goliath says that seven suspects have been arrested for being in the possession of crystal meth (tik) and Mandrax in Hanover Park. The suspects include five males ranging in age from 19 to 38. This as two women have also been arrested for being in the possession of drugs. They were nabbed in different areas across Hanover Park: Seilca Walk, Johndown Walk, Erie Court and Lansur Road.

Meanwhile, four men between the ages of 24 and 43 have been arrested on charges of malicious damage to property, theft, and domestic violence.

These arrests come as police are working to crack down on illicit trade and violent crime. Hanover Park and its surrounds are considered hot spots for these kinds of criminal activity.
