Security threat assessments had revealed that South Africa was relatively stable and a conducive environment for free and fair elections.
Briefing the nation in Tshwane this morning, Defense Minister Thandi Modise emphasised that all forms of violence would not be tolerated, and issued a stern warning to South Africans not to incite violence ahead of the elections and on November 1st.
Modise adds that the government has identified areas of concern that require monitoring, and has ranked them in terms of low, medium, and high-risk areas. The army will be deployed accordingly.
