It’s likely that the electricity and municipal rates increases are going to push up the prices of essential goods including food. As of July 1st in Cape Town, electricity will cost over 13% more while the price of water will increase by 5% and refuse removal by 3.5%. This as households are making the hard choice between keeping the lights on and buying food and other essentials.
