South Africa’s unemployment rate stands at 32.6 percent.
This is the highest unemployment rate recorded since the start of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey by Stats SA in 2008. This figure translates to 7.2 million unemployed people.
According to the definition of unemployment – it includes those discouraged from seeking employment. In the first quarter, 43.2 percent of the labour force was without work. Between the first and second quarter, 201 000 people were discouraged from finding work.
