The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has thrown its weight behind the government’s revised contact tracing, quarantine, isolation protocols.
According to the Health Department’s revised contact tracing protocols, quarantining of people who came in contact with Covid-19 patients will be stopped with immediate effect. Health authorities say there is no evidence that these measures are effective with the Omicron variant.
SAMA’s Vice-Chairperson Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa says this move should’ve been done away with sooner to avoid a crippling impact on the economy and healthcare system.
