SAMA Demands Government Find Funds To Place Junior Doctors

Government needs to find the funds to allow more than 6000 medical students waiting to start their internships and community services placement across the country. This is the assertion by the South African Medical Association (SAMA).

According to the Health Department, the reason for the delay in students being placed is because of a shortage of funded posts. However, the Vice-Chairperson of the association Dr. Mvuyisi Mzukwa expressed outrage over the government’s failure to plan for junior doctors’ statutory placement for 2022.

He adds that when they engaged with the government over the issue, they were informed that funds were not accommodated in the mid-term budget.
