It’s unlikely that South African hajj pilgrims will be subjected to the Motawif system. It was implemented during this year’s hajj, but was only applied to hujaaj from Europe, the US, and Australia. President of the South African Hajj and Umrah Council (Sahuc), Shaheen Essop, says that much refinement must be implemented to fix the mess caused by the Motawif system. He says that there were cases this year, where UK pilgrims had approached Sahuc to assist them with some of the issues they faced while on hajj.
