The Delft police station has recorded the highest incidents of rape in the Western Cape.

It also ranks among the top three precincts with the highest cases of reported rapes in the country.

This was revealed by Police Minister Bheki Cele as he released South Africa’s fourth quarter crime statistics which covered January until March of this year.

Minister Cele says that just over 10 800 rapes have been reported in South Africa. Of these, liquor was linked to nearly 1 300 cases.

He was speaking as Members of Parliament have described the country as one big crime scene.

They were reacting to the spike in murders and rapes recorded during the period under review.

The country has recorded over 6 000 murders in the first three months of this year.

During the same period of 2021, South Africa recorded just under 5 000 murders.
