The Israeli occupation regime has long imposed a systematic attack on Palestinian journalists and in some instances on foreign journalists.
We remember the cold-blooded murder of news channel Al Jazeera’s Shireen Abu Akleh in May 2022 and just a year before the bombing and demolition of a building housing international media offices in the Gaza Strip.
That was in Israel’s 2021 aggression on Gaza.
Fast forward to October 7th, 2023 to today more than a hundred journalists have been killed in Gaza for exposing Israel’s crimes against the more than two million strong population who are in the world’s largest open-air prison.
Now South African journalists are taking a stand demanding an end to the mass murder and the targeting of journalists in Gaza. They have planned a vigil for this coming Sunday.
