Tensions are high between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo following an airspace incident.

Kigali has confirmed that it opened fire at a DRC fighter jet that it says violated its airspace on Tuesday evening. It has demanded that its neighbour stop the aggression, adding that it’s the third incident involving a Congolese fighter jet in its airspace.

Kinshasa has denied the violation and has described this latest attack by Rwanda is an act of war.

The two countries have been in a diplomatic spat with DR Congo accusing Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels. Kigali has consistently denied this.
