The issue of the Gugulethu cemetery being used for recreational purposes by the community is a problem that has been a long time coming.

Concerned community member Xolili Ndzovi says the graveyard isn’t being respected the way it should be; therefore, a petition was created to get authorities to take action against those abusing the space.

However, Ndzovi says authorities aren’t taking the matter seriously.

The bad state of the burial ground in NY5 has sparked concern for people who have loved ones buried there. Some community members use the grounds as a soccer field and even hang their washing.
