In an inspiring display of community solidarity and generosity, Radio 786, with the enthusiastic support of the business community and its dedicated listeners, has successfully raised over R1.1 million for charitable causes during June and July 2024. The funds were directed towards two major initiatives: a Palestine fundraising campaign with Islamic Relief and the Ashura Feeding Project.

The Palestine fundraising campaign was a collaborative effort between Islamic Relief and Radio 786.  We managed to generate an impressive R900,000, through an intensive scheduled marketing campaign which included two dedicated pledge lines, radio interviews, 30 second adverts, news updates and social media advertising. This initiative was aimed at raising awareness and much needed support for the Palestinian people who is currently suffering 76 years of oppression, starvation and genocide.

In addition to the Palestine fundraising campaign, the Ashura Feeding Project garnered R230,000. This annual campaign, a partnership between Muslims for Humanity and Radio 786, aims to combat hunger and support impoverished communities across the nation. The project is a testament to the enduring commitment of Radio 786 to humanitarian causes.

The Ashura Feeding Project is a nationwide initiative that successfully feeds 250,000 hungry and impoverished individuals. Radio 786 plays a pivotal role in the Western Cape, mobilizing and coordinating with various relief organizations, feeding schemes, and community workers to ensure broad coverage. The areas benefiting from this project include Bonteheuwel, Bishop Lavis, Manenberg, Oceanview, informal settlements in Masephumelele, The Vlei, Makhaza, and Freedom Park, Chatsworth, Hopefield, Khayelitsha, Langa, Strand, Valhalla Park, Delft, Factreton, Lost City, Tafelsig, Heideveld, Bokmakierie, Elsies River, Leonsdale, Uitsig, Seawings, Cafda, Lavenderhill, Bridgetown, Montague Village and other parts of Mitchells Plain.

The success of these initiatives is a testament to the charity and compassion of the community. As the Quran says, “Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly—their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.” This verse beautifully encapsulates the spirit of giving that has been demonstrated by the Radio 786 community.

Through these collaborative efforts, Radio 786 has once again demonstrated its unwavering dedication to humanitarian aid and community support. The successful fundraising during these two months highlights the profound impact that collective action and community engagement can have on addressing urgent needs and making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
