Johannes Hendrik Burger insists that the Haron family’s lawyer is trying to hold him accountable for the late Imam’s death.

Burger had worked at the Maitland Police Station at the time when Imam Abdullah Haron was being detained and interrogated in 1969.

He told the court about how he had noticed a change in how the Imam had walked during the last few days of September.

But when Advocate Howard Varney questioned him about whether he had reported this change in the Imam’s behaviour and movements, Burger was quick to claim that it was not his duty to do so.

Burger however did acknowledge that he had told someone at the station that the Imam was not walking as he used to.
