The SA Poultry Association has rejected calls made by an industry peer group to remove all trade tariffs on chicken imports.
According to the peer grouping, the suspension in tariffs could result in a 33% drop in the price of chicken. It comes as South Africa is crippling high prices of fuel, electricity, and gas.
However, the poultry association concedes that this call will only place the currently globally competitive industry on a declining trajectory.
