The MJC Halaal Trust has given an undertaking that action will be taken after a halaal certified product was mislabeled as containing pork.
The incident happened on Sunday at Checkers Rylands Village in Athlone.
The branch manager has told the Trust that ingredient labels were erroneously delivered to the store and erroneously used despite them only selling halal meat.
The Trust’s Chief of Operations Moulana Zakariyah Philander said that pending an investigation, action can be anything from issuing a non-conformance, suspension of halal certification or withdrawal of halal certification.
