The trend of political killings is a long-standing feature of South African society, which criminologist, Professor Guy Lamb is guided by the culture of conflict resolution in the country.

Lamb was speaking as a police political task team in KwaZulu-Natal is investigating the murder of Michael Thulani Shangase who was killed in Pietermaritzburg yesterday.

He was standing for local government on an EFF ticket.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo says that Shangase was on his way back from an EFF campaign in Harewood when he came under attack.

Lamb says that despite several investigations these problems remain.
