It comes as the past week of heavy rains and riverbank bursts have caused widespread destruction to infrastructure and people’s homes.

Aid trucks are being allowed in and out of these key areas.

Thousands of people have been displaced or impacted by the heavy rains.

The Western Cape government is meanwhile determining whether the situation requires the declaration of a state of disaster.
