The people first to be vaccinated for Covid-19 are health workers. The elderly and those with comorbidities will be part of Phase 2. Holding a briefing on government’s vaccine rollout strategy, the Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says they are targeting 67% of the population to ensure herd immunity.
Government is hoping to start the first vaccine rollout by February. But that depends on the success of its bi-lateral negotiations. It has signed non-disclosure agreements with various pharmaceutical manufacturers. These include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson. Russian and Chinese manufacturers are also on the list.
