A man earlier taken in for questioning over the fire at parliament, has now been arrested.
President Cyril Ramaphosa Sunday afternoon revealed that someone is being held and questioned in connection with the massive fire at Parliament. However he did not provide further details. Police say the man is 49-year-old.
President Ramaphosa described the fire at the national key point as a ‘terrible’ and ‘devastating’ event. Referring to the funeral of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, he says to wake up to this a day after they gave The Arch the best send off is a setback of what they were basking in yesterday.
He however affirmed that the work of Parliament will continue.
He has praised fire officials for their swift response saying that they intervened at the right time, saving a very important national key point.
It appears that the sprinkler system did not work as it was supposed to when the fire broke out.
