Pan-African Parliament To Decide On A New Leader

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is set to vote for its new leadership today. This election comes amid high tensions over the elective process.

Some members of the PAP took a violent turn due to frustrations over whether the next president should be on a rotational basis, or via the current direct ballot box. The southern caucus is leading the call for rotation.

However, the east and west caucuses are strongly opposing the idea. The vote is expected to start at 2 pm this afternoon in Midrand, Johannesburg to allow parliament’s clerk to receive a letter from the African Union clarifying which elective system will be legal.
