Torture has been central the Zionist regime since its inception. However, since the 7th October 2023 the intensity of this brutal practice has gotten worse. This is the sentiment shared by the assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, Birzeit University, Basil Farraj.
He was commenting on the recent attack where Zionist soldiers sodomised a Palestinian man with a rod to the point where he had been hospitalised. The story has since made international headlines.
The Zionist entity appears to have acted on the gruesome incident by arresting the nine implicated soldiers. This resulted in backlash from colonial settlers who stormed at least two occupation military sites.
Farraj explains that this further reveals the impunity that the Israeli regime grants soldiers who torture Palestinians.
“It’s a violent exercise. It’s also congratulated by Israeli ministers. This is telling about how torture is central to the Zionist regime’s nature. Something very important is also to look at the way in which the Israeli army themselves, boast about the torture of Palestinian prisoners.” said Farraj.
Farraj stressed that these violent acts are not just done with the intention of inflicting damage to Palestinians, but to satisfy a sadistic craving.
“This is not just done to inflict damage onto Palestinians. But I think more importantly, to satisfy the Zionist population that craves these images and sense of humiliation as a façade over victory that Israel would never accomplish.”
