A Pakistani foreign national has been busted for issuing fraudulent documents at Home Affairs.
Afran Ahmed, and his 26 co-accused appeared in the Krugerdorp Magistrate Court after being arrested inside a Home Affairs branch during a late-night raid two weeks ago.
The court heard damning evidence against Ahmed who allegedly led a syndicate that illegally secured passports for undocumented immigrants.
Ahmed’s modus operandi was to target unemployed people by promising R500 to sell their IDs to him. Through this, he was able to smuggle illegal immigrants into South Africa with South African passports.
Warrant Officer Veerasamy Ponnen says a corrupt Home Affairs official has been assisting Ahmed in his corrupt dealings.
