A group of undocumented foreign nationals has been arrested in Paarl.

Paarl police were conducting patrols near the N1 Highway in the early hours of Saturday morning when they noticed people disembarking from a passenger bus. Upon closer inspection, officers found undocumented women and children inside a trailer attached to the passenger bus.

One of the passengers attempted to intervene by bribing officers with R50 000 to turn a blind eye. However, the SAPS official executed an arrest on charges of preventing and combatting corrupt activities and the prevention and combatting of human trafficking.

The incident has been handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations (DPCI) for further investigation.

The suspects are set to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court to face the respective charges on Monday.
