The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has launched an investigation into FlySafair following social media allegations of overbooking and overselling.
One customer, Thato Miles Nsala took to Twitter, expressing frustration after arriving at the airport, only to be told that there were no seats available, despite having booked a flight.
The airline has apologised for the inconvenience, however claiming that overbooking is a common practice with Flysafair to keep prices affordable. It went further to say that often passengers miss their flights, and then the seat is left vacant on takeoff.
The probe aims to assess the airline’s compliance with the Consumer Protection legislation. Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu has urged affected consumers to provide relevant information.
The NCC has already initiated communication with FlySafair to gather necessary details.
