At least one person has died in a fire in Jim se Bos in Philippi.

The gender and age of the deceased are unknown. City Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call that some 200 informal structures had caught alight. It took firefighters nine hours to extinguish the blaze. Three firefighters were also injured in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unclear. The scene has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
