Opposition party members have told President Cyril Ramaphosa that he should not delay answering their questions on the Phala Phala matter.
The president had written to the Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to appear before the National Assembly on September 29. But opposition MPs say that the president must see this issue as urgent, and he must appear before that date.
Political analyst, Ebrahim Fakir says that the ANC’s behaviour in parliament of protecting members, or sitting presidents when their integrity is in questions, could lead the way for more instances of State Capture. Fakir says that the ANC’s defence of President Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala matter is reminiscent of the Zuma years.
