Police have stepped up their deployment in the Nyanga taxi rank area following the death of two men and the serious injuring of five other people.
It’s alleged that the seven were assaulted at the taxi rank. Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says those injured are fighting for their lives in hospital. The youngest patient is 15-years-old.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated. But detectives are probing the possibility that this was a community justice act.
The Nyanga Community Policing Forum secretary-general Dumisani Qwebe has said that they were informed that they were killed for allegedly raping women and hijackings. He has urged people to report crime instead of taking the law into their own hands.
