President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed new legislation into law that is aimed at strengthening the fight against gender-based violence.

Changes to the Criminal Law, the Criminal and Related Matters, and Domestic Violence Amendment Bills, were drawn from the resolutions taken on the Gender-Based Violence summit hosted by the president three years ago.

Amongst the changes include expanding the scope of the National Register for Sex Offenders (NSRO).

This means that it will include the details of all sex offenders.

The legislation had initially only dealt with sex offenders against children and mentally disabled people.

It has also increased the time frame for sex offenders to remain on NSRO before they are removed.
