The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)’s local offices are tallying the manual municipal candidate submissions, which will conclude by the end of business.
IEC Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo says that over 10 280 municipal seats are being contested nationally.
This as it’s still unclear whether the polls will take place on October 27 or be postponed to February.
The IEC is however continuing with its schedule. Mamabolo says that 276 political parties have submitted their candidates.
This as two of these will contest in each of the 257 municipalities in South Africa.
Mamabolo notes that 944 independents have registered for the polls.
